He entered the service in 1775 as a volunteer under CaptainJamesHarrison in Bute County in North Carolina. saying that his firsttourwas eight weeks at which time he marched to engage a party ofToriesembodied between Cape Fear and Fifty Six Drowning Creekbutbeforereaching the place the Tories had been defeated by a Libertyparty andput to flight. Capt Harrison then ordered a retreat to CapeFear to aferry and there to lay in ambush in order to take those ofour enemiesthat had made their escape which orderwas executed and wetook thewhole party prisoner without the fire of a gun. We then giveup theprisoners to a party of the Liberty men which was to take chargeofthe prisoners and convey them to Hillsborough in North Carolina.Hethen received a discharge fromCaptain Harrison which is lost.Hissecond tour was under Capt Macon in the year 1776 was called ontoguard the assembly at Rawley in North Carolina which was a touroffour weeks and received a discharge from Capt Macon for the timewehad served which discharge is also lost or misplaced. His third tour was under Capt Peter Bennett, Samuel Crafton, Lt,underCol. Stevens More, Cager Parker Brigade Major. In the year 1780werendezvous in Hillsborough, North Carolina and then was marchedtoCross Creek, lay there about three weeks until we drew our armsandtent cloths and then was marched to Old Adolph Courthouse ontheYadkin River at which place I also received am discharge fromColMoore. This tour was which discharge is lost. That his fourthtourwas volunteer under Capt Henderson finding myself a horse. That hewaspromised that every two months service of himself and horseshouldclear him of three months service. That Capt Henderson joinedwithCol Demalbury and Capt Debarron at Bell s mill where we had asmallengagementbut without success. From there we was marchedtoMecklenburg under Capt Henderson where we had a small engagementwitha small party of Tories near Clinch Creek but without success.Wewent on down Clinchs Creek, took some Tory prisoners and returnedhomein the year 1780. That his ... tour was under Capt Peter Bennett in the year 1781 whowasemployed in fishing for the United Sates. That he served a tourofthree months under him in hauling the seigh and cleaning andbarrelingof fish in Roanoke River. That he received a discharge fromthe samewhich is lost. Saying that his parents informed him that hewas born inVirginia in the year 1750. That he has possession of arecord of hisage taken from the original which he believes to betrue. That hisplace of residencewas in North Carolina where hefirst volunteered hisservices to the United States and in which satehe continued for anumber of years.
