1). West Patterson b abt 1784, d abt 1850 was listed on the1810EdgefieldDistrict, SC census . In 1828 he signed the Petition of Haywood Co, NC residents askingforthecreation of Macon County. I n 1830 he was listed in Buncombe Co, NC census. In 1840 he was inMaconCounty,NC census. He apparently lived in the small section of southernTransylvaniaCountynear the Toxaway River . This area was part of Buncombe County, NC from 1791 until 1808whenHaywoodwas formed. This area was also claimed by Walton County, Ga for a short time. In1828MaconCounty was formed and included this area. In 1851 Jackson County was formed andtookthisarea. In 1861 Transylvan ia County was formed and this area fell into that county. West might be a brother of Peter Paterson b abt 1794 of SC,HaywoodandCherokee Counties, N C.
