1). Downing.ged From the notes on son Joel Baily, provided by Gertrude E. Lomas Manley, Bohemia, NY Joel s father was an entrepreneur and medical doctor. When Joel was born his father and two other partners were in the iron business in Sussex County, NJ. Therefore,it is assumed that Joel was born in NJ, possibly Andover .
2). Downing.ged From the notes on the son of Phebe Carpenter Baily, provided by Gertrude E. Lomas Manley, Bohemia, NY His mother died when Joel was very young. she died in New Jersey. We assume she died in childbirth or shortly after the birth of Joel s sister, Hannah.
