ACCIDENT KILLS 2 NEAR ALVA Staff and wire reports Two Kansas people were killed Saturday night after a two vehicle accident on U.S. 281 in Woods County. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said 18 year old Jason Ray Bower, Medicine Lodge, Kan., and 20 year old Tanya Dawn Meritt, a Cherokee native living in Medicine Lodge, were killed. The accident occurred at 10 45 p.m. Saturday north of Alva. The patrol said Bower was driving southbound on U.S. 281 when he lost control and crossed the center lane into the northbound lane. His car collided into an oncoming vehicle. It was later found out that Mr. Bower was drinking and driving The vehicles came to a rest in a ditch where Bower s vehicle then caught fire. Bower was pinned for about 30 minutes. Meritt, who was in the second car, was pinned of about 45 minutes. The driver of the second car, 25 year old Christopher Parker of Medicine Lodge, was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit at St. Mary s Mercy Hospital Sunday night. I a separate accident, the patrol said 20 year old David Brewer of Oklahoma City was killed Sunday after a car collided into his vehicle on Interstate 240 in Oklahoma County. the accident occurred at 3 30 a.m. Late Sunday night, OHP troopers were investigation a fatal accident that occured east of Okeene, No information was available at press time. this accident was that of Tanya cousin Stormie Leigh Winter OBIT TANYA DAWN MERITT IN LOVING MEMORY Tanya was born July 25, 1978, at Wakita, to Don and Connie Crian Meritt, and passed away May 23, 1999. She started to school in Pond Creek and moved to Cherokee High School in 1997. She graduated from Cherokee High School in 1997. She was a cheerleader in grade school and Junior High. She took gymnastics in grade school and was a member of the Salt ForkZoomers. tanya was also a member of the Girl Scouts, Order of Rainbow Girls, F.H.A., F.F.A. and played softball. At the time of her death she was living in Medicine Lodge, Kansas and working in Norwieh, Kansas. She is survived by her companion, Chris Parker and son, Dalton Dale Parker of the home her mother, Connie Meritt of Cherokee a sister, Natasha Meritt of Cherokee two brothers, Tony Meritt of Lahoma and Larry Meritt of Enid her paternal grandparents, Wayne and Olive Meritt of Enid a nephew Tyreal Meritt, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by Father in 1992 and her maternal grandparents, Ray and Nellie Crain.
