He wa s the first Propri etors C lerk, the first Inn k eeper in V ershire, and owne d a larg e amount of lan d. H e died in 18 01, and his wido w kept th e tavern many yea r s afterwards . They had four so ns and fou r daughters. Jon a than Maltby , Jr. settled on th e farm sout heast from hi s fathers no w owned by his grand son, W. F. M altby. Jo siah, Jes se, r emoved to Illinois . George W. pas sed th e most of hi s li fe here, serving i n various town off ice s, and died at P o st Mills.
