1). Leora Carter was killed in France on September 12, 1 9 1 8 d u ring WWI. Only eleven months and one day after ma rr yi ng S ar ah Augusta Wright and just 3 months and 25 da y s aft er th e b irth of his son Wilber Wright Carter. Leo r a is bu ried i n France in a Military Cemetary. Marion Pa t Scogg ins ha s a n ewspaper clipping dealing with Leo ra s mothe r going t o Fran ce to visit the grave site. In the late 1920s the War Department of the United St a t e s c ompiled a list of mothers and widows of decease d so ld ie rs k illed in World War I and offered to send th em t o th ei r love d one s final resting place in Europe. According to Doug Miller, Sarah was a blazing red h e a d w h o smoked Pall Mall cigarettes and drank beer an d w a s a ha r d worker. He lived with her during the summ e r o f 1970 af te r he got out of the service.
