1). John Cantzon Foster was born in Columbia, South Carolina i n 1939. As his father moved frequently in a succession of j obs as a journalist, much of his childhood was spent at Wav ering Place at Congaree, the country estate of his materna l grandparents. When both of his parents died during the wi nter of 1950 51, he and his sisters were adopted by Dr. Jam es A. Hayne, their mother s brother, and moved to Hampton , South Carolina. John Foster won a Navy ROTC scholarship a nd graduated from Duke Universityin 1961. As a naval offic er, he served on USS Arneb AKA 56 in support of Operatio n Deepfreeze in Antarctica, USS Long Beach CGN 9 , the fir st nuclear powered surface warship, USS Dahlgren DLG 12 , USS Borie DD 704 , commanded Coastal River Division 22 which became Special Boat Unit 22 in New Orleans, and Spec ial Boat Squadron 2 in Little Creek Virginia, and served a s an advisor to the South Vietnamese and Colombian navies . After retirement as a Captain in 1984, he taught in the S outh Carolina public school system, first at Conway High Sc hool for five years, then at Summerville High School.
2).  Education  I attended schools in Hampton. SC until the death of my fat her in Nov. of 1965.  Then I lived for a year with my fathe r  s sister and her husband, Fern Rousey and Claude Baugh .  Later, I graduated from High School at Saint Angela Acad emy inAiken, SC.   I studied Engineering Drafting at San D iego City College in San Diego, CA from 1975 1976. When Joh n  husband  retired from the US Navy in 1984 I returned t o USC Coastal Carolina and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 198 8 with a B. A.  in Elementary Education.
