1). According to Dowden Bible he was baptized by Rev. John Walker. Monroe Dowden Sr. Monroe T. Dowden, Sr., 83, died in San Augustine, Tex., Monday, May 10, at 9 20 p.m., after an extended illness. Survivors include four sons, Frances D. Dowden of Zwolle Hoover Dowden of Baton Rouge, Monroe T. Dowden Jr., and Randel E. Dowden, both of Leesville three daughters, Mrs. Ed Lee Merritt of Many, Mrs. Jessie Mae Harrison of Georgia, and Mrs. Joy Louise Sandifer of Bossier City one sister, Mrs. Harriett Walker of Leesville 26 grandchildren, and 46 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the Prospect Methodist Church Wed., May 12, at 10L30 a.m., with the Rev. D. E. Stroud officiating. Burial was in the Prospect Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home.
