NOTES
1). My grandfather s birth name was William Terrell William son. He wasthe fifth of six children born to William Washington Williamson III andKate Clifford Kenan. His father died when Will was just two years ago. His mother wasleft with three small children to raise, all of them under the age ofseven. Needing the family support her sister Aurelia could offer, KateWilliamson moved the family to Macon. Her brotherin law, Charles HenryHall, was a respected physician in Macon. The family lived on Arlington Place in Macon. A Methodist ministernamed Rev. Clarke lived diagonally across the street. His daughter Ruthwas the same age as Will and a childhood friend. The family were regular worshippers at St. Paul s Episcopal Church. When Will s older brother Charlie died unmarried, his sizeableinheritance was divided up between Will and his sister Emily. Apparently Will was a restless young man. He joined the Navy forseveral years then returned to Macon. On 2 May 1898 he enlisted in theUnited STates Army at Fort Trumbull, CT. He served as a private inBattery H, 2nd Regiment of the Artillery. Will fought in theSpanish American War. On 10 March 1899 he was honorably discharged fromthe Army. When Will returned to Macon, the family tried to change him. Hissister Emily and her husband, General Walter Harris, were apparently theones who wanted Will to settle down. Ruth Clarke remembered, They triedto tie him down to an office job at Bibb butit wasn t in his nature sohe soon went away again. I think it was then that he became an engineer. Sometime around 1911, Will changed his name from William TerrellWilliamson to William Kell Hamilton. The exact reason is unknown. RuthClarke seemed to think that Mr. Hamilton was someone whose wife and onlyson had been killed in a car accident. Apparently Will Terrell and Billy Hamilton were best friends. The two young men were inseparable. For a while, Will lived in the Hamilton home. Ruth thought Will changedhis name because Mr. Hamilton asked him to as he had no other child. There is no record ofthe name change recorded in either Cheyenne, WY orDenver, CO. Perhaps some records exists in Salt Lake City, UT. RuthClarke further speculated that Willie would never have changed his nameif he had known it would mean so much to his mother. There was apparently some sort of tension between Will and his sisterEmily. Speculation is that General Harris did not approve of Will swanderlust nor did he approve of how Will was spending his inheritancefrom Charlie. Ruth Clarke speculated that I think Will must have cuthimself off in a way from his family by changing his name. I neverunderstood why he did it. Will s cousin, Louise Williamson, was also surprised by Will s changeof name. She lost contact with Will in 1916 until he suddenly appearedin 1945 at her home in Americus, GA. Apparently when Will visited her in1945, he never told either of his name change nor that apprised her ofthe fact that he was married and the father of three children. Sources Ruth Clarke, Louise Williamson, death certificate W.K. Hamilton was a 32 degree Mason. He belonged to the Korein Temple inWyoming and the Santa Monica Bay Shrine Club. He was a master Mason inthe Acacia Lodge of Cheyenne, Wy. He also belonged to the Elks Club of Cheyenne, WY Lodge No. 660. He belonged to the United States Artillery Corps Veterans Association, the United Spanish American War Veterans, . He belonged to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers When W.K. first met Mabel, he was working as a locomotive engineer forthe Union Pacific Railroad. He was based in Cheyenne, WY. She was aregistered nurse who worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as well. W.K.ended up in the hospital and Mabel was hisnurse. In Santa Monica the family lived at 810 7th Street, on the corner of 7thStreet and Montana Avenue. Losq, Etienne Theophile born 7 October 1952 in Douarnenez, France died 13 May 1987 in Paris, France
