Lemuel Wright Lem Brown , 70, of 204 Roszel Road, Winchester, VA, died Sunday at the Winchester Memorial Hospital. Mr. Brown was born Feb, 12, 1911, in Greenwood to the late Lemuel M. and Mary E. Wright Brown. He marries Sarah Rust April 22, 1933, inFranklin and she survives. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winchester and the board of deacons of the church. He waas a director of the Old Dominion Savings and Loan, a member of the Rotary Club and on the board of directors of the Winchester Golf Club. A funeral service was conducted at the church with private interment services at a later date. Survivors include a son, Stephen Allen Brown of Alexandria, VA a daughter, Susan Brown Price of Richmond, VA a brother, Dr. George Brown of Greenwood and six grandchildren. Stephen A. BROWN, son, added this information by letter dated Feb. 6, 1997 to Ernie Grubb, compiler. My father graduated from Franklin College in the depths of the depression. Through a chance encounter between my grandmother and an old boyfriend of hers on the Inter Urban to Indianapolis, my father got a job as a bookkeeper with the Ladoga Canning Co.A few months later, a freight car of pumpkin spoiled. No salesman wanted to deal with the irate customer, so they sent the newest person on the staff, my father. He was very depressed when he returned, since he could only persuade the customer to replacethe spoiled pumpkin. Ladoga was estatic that they did not have a lawsuit on their hands. Fron that day forward, my Dad was a salesman. When I was born, he was a traveling salesman. During WWII, he was with the Quartermaster Corps in Chicago. After the war, he became Vice President of Sales for National Fruit Product Co. White House apple products in Winchester, VA. He spent the restof his life there. He was active in church and civic affairs. My father loved to play golf. He was also probably the shyest successful salesman who ever lived. Brown, was held Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Winchester, VA. Mrs. Brown died Monday at Memorial Hospital in Winchester, VA. Born Aug. 3, 1908 in Columbus, she was the daughter of Thomas R. and Minnie Belle Hailway Rust.  She graduated fron Franklin High School and attended Franklin College. She is survived by a son, Stephen Brown, Alexandria, VA. and a daughter, Susan Brown, Winchester  a sister, Mary Minner, Franklin and a brother, Robert Rust, Culver.  Six grandchuldren also survive.
