1). bobspu.ged BIO The WILSON reference cited below states that James ELLISON and two brothers, Berry and Robert, came to the Powell River area in Claiborne Co., TN from NORTH CAROLINA. The 1850 census enumeration gives the birthplace of James ELLISON as South Carolina. T he 1850 census shows James as 41 years of age and a farmer. Though the parents of James ELLISON are not named in any of the references found, there is a 67 year old female also born in SC whose name is recorded as Elizabeth ELLISON enumerated in James ELLISON s household. Compiler strongly suspects that this is the mother of James, Robert and Berry ELLISON, the three brothers who first settled on the Powell River in TN. Compiler found a James ELLISON, Jr. on the Claiborne Co., TN census in 1830. His age was in the 20 30 range an adult female in the 15 20 range was enumerated in this household, as was a female under the age of 5. Since James ELLISON s oldest daughter was born about 1829, this well could be the correct enumeration for thisfamily. REF 1. 2).  bobspu.ged  BIO  The  Old Speedwell Families  books by L. EDWARDS, give the name of the wife of James ELLISON as  Elizabeth    , maiden name unknown.  The WILSON reference below gives the wife of James ELLISON as      AUSMUS.  The 1850 census for Claiborne County, TNshows the wife of James ELLISON as  Eliza ELLISON.   There is also a 67 year old  Elizabeth ELLISON  enumerated in the household who is probably the mother of James. From the data taken from all sources, compiler has made an  educated guess  that the wife of James ELLISON was Eliza  or possibly Elizabeth  AUSMUS.  November, 1996, Eva McCARTY, another descendent of Bartlett O  DELL, sent compiler a summary of census records including the ELLISON families. Mrs. McCARTY found the following  1850   ELLISON, James  38 , Elizabeth  38 , Nancy  21 , Henry  19 , Berry  14 , William  12 , Benjamon  9 , James  7 , Elizabeth  67  SC  CL 1327 671  Union County, TN, District 12 Lost Creek, Aug. 9, 1870  14 14  ELLISON, Henry, et al  the son of James ELLISON  15 15  ELLISON, Eliza  60 , CLEMANS, Nancy  40, Martha  16 , Mary  16 , Elizabeth  13 , Nancy  28 , ODLE, Elizabeth  70  James ELLISON died in 1851, and Eliza was listed as head of their household in 1870. Per Eva McCARTY, Eliza, 68 years old,  Mother Widow  was enumerated in the household of Nancy CLEMENS in Union County, TN in 1880.  REF  1.
