SOURCE Strictly Private Geneology of the Williams family from our earliest knowledge of them to the present date, as taken from the book of John David or De Lamater Williams, my father. I being Theodore Evenden Alsop Williams, his second son, born November 3 1860 at 1 30 a.m. at the No. 2 Hanover Place, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. Dated Brooklyn NY, Sept 25, 1880 and annotated through 1934 by various descendents. Entered into the computer by Ron Williams, 2003. This is a copy of a handwritten manuscript obtained from Theo Williams descendents. BIOGRAPHY Robert Williams immigrated on the ship Rose from Great Yarmouth, arriving in 1635 with his wife and several children, probably Samuel, Mary and John . He was made a freeman in Roxbury 2 May 1638. He was a member of the Ancient and HonorableArtillery Company of Boston in 1644. After the death of his first wife, he married Margaret, widow of John Fearing of Hingham. This took place 3 Nov 1675. Savage asserts that the family genealogy says he was married a third time, to Miss Martha Strong, who is said to have died in 1704 in her 92ndyear. Robert died 1 Sept 1693. From original notes of John David Williams. Sir Robert Williams was a Puritan, and left his home that he might establish religious toleration in the New World. He was a nobleman, having for his Coat of Arms a white lion, rampant, on a sable shield. The Crest is a Moor Cock proper, in the attitudeof fight. The motto is Y Fyno Dwy y Fyaa, meaning what God willeth, will be. From Harold Williams, 1934. From Leonard Wilson, lecturer in Genalogy & Heraldry, University of Califonia, when visiting Chicago I learned the following Jan 22, 1934, The ancient family seat in the early 16th century was Aulkmondbury, Huntingdonshire, England. Mr. Wilson, and Englisman and authority on the subject of Heraldr, disputes the Crest as a Moor Cock. At a later date, he says he will give me the authentic record of Coat of Arms, Crest and Motto. From Ron Williams, 2003 The record does not reflect that this was ever provided. BIRTH There is some confusion as to where on the British Isles he was born, because Theodore Williams states, with no evidence that he was born in Wales, whereas other reserach shows that he was born in England.
2). BURIAL Her grave was visible in 1855 in the Roxbury Burying Ground, but Sir Robert s was not to be found there at that time.
