1). Owner of Rivenhall Estate Only child named in mother s Will. Succeeded cousin James at Rivenhall 1730. M.P. for Sudbury 17 15 22. Died 1 April 1733. Will dated 18 July 1730, proved 10 April 1733. Buried Rivenhall. Referred in Will of grandfather. Thomas 3rd and was reckoned a gentleman of very good parts He wrote several numbers of the Spectator and was a pal of King George 1st who condescended to smoke his pipe with his English subjects of merit, He offered him an Irish peerage which he thought proper to refuse He was a friend of Addison Thomas is Mon tres chor ami of the Rev. Wm Cole of Cambridge who in his antiquities & Gossip is a bit like a sentimental school girl. Thomas appears not to have graduated after his time at Cambridge. He was a friend of William Whiston, the astronomer... contrib., donation ? Discovery of Longitude by means of the Noodle Mary nee Shirley was Western s Brain Colo, a compliment.. but he was sarcastic about her brief inconsolable state and speedy re marriage, COLE.. who was a woman of great reading, and no less writing and observation. For her sake, I shall less regard woman s tears after her widowhood. How often have I heard hersay that she valued the name of Western more than the greatest title any noble could bestow?. Yet not many months after my seeing her and her son on his marriage, with which she was dis satisfied, SHE RE MARRIED to Mr Bridges, of or near Cobham in Surrey. This was about the year 1735.
