1). !First found, age 4, in 1850 census, Saline County, MO p. 46 in Santa Clara County, CA in 1860 p. 503 Benton County, OR in 1880 ed 10, sheet 22 , with eldest son, Ross, born in OR Benton County, OR in 1900 ed 4, sheet 7 . According to bio of brother, John Pettis, Hugh was still living in OR in 1922. !Undocumented sheet sent by Oregon State Archives gives vital data also states he left California and went to Oregon at the age of twenty 1867 . Attended Oregon Agricultural College, graduating in 1871 graduating class of six four men and two women .Became professor at OAC, and principal of preparatory dept. until 1873, when he became principal of Shedd public schools Linn County , Oregon. In 1876 he bought a 200 acre farm on the Willamette River, about six miles northeast of Monroe, Benton Co. Had 35 acres in prunes had grain house capable of storing his and neighbor s commodities.
