Affiant states that as soon as the news came that Doubl e h e a d was killed Phillips shut up the store and kept i t s h u t u p and quit selling goods == The crop was contin ue d wo rk in g by the ^negroes the others [heuinep] of Dou ble hea d wen t o n untill towards fall when four white me n cam e th ere an d st ayed four or five days, -- these whi te me n talk ed to P hilli ps a good long time and they see med t o be cou nsellin g toget her but affiant could not un =derst and the m -- thes e white m en after talked to the n egroe s and afte r about fo ur days co uncelling the whit e men as ked affian t and her Au nts & [Sone y] ^Thau=ti=n e - all Do ublehead an d Wah=hatc h a brother o f Doublehea d to [gueri te] a [loam ] and thes e one of the whi te ma n named Blac k proposed tha t all the n egroes and hors e s and cattle an d hogs and al l the removabl e property s houl d be taken ca re off for th e children of Ol d Doubleh ead thi s Black wa s the man wit h whom Bird Doubleh ead ha d been an d was the re boording a t whoal It was aske d b y the whites w hethe r this should b e done or not and no n e of the Cherokee s c ountered to it , but Phillips the s tor e keeper gave hi s c onsent to it an d he went off wit h the t hree white me n and t hey carried a ll the goods bo xes and tr unks and al l belongin gs to the s tore (off wit h them) and a ll the ab ove describe d article s of propert y and negroes, a nd catt le and horses a nd hog s [t&] of f with them and the y [neui i] ande paid for [ norl etuiua ] any more = one of th e negr oes named Andrew wh o co ul d speak and and understan d bot h English & Cherokee st a t ed to affiant that he unders too d what the white men s a i d and he told this affiant th a t these white men wer e no t [m eaning] to save the negroe s a nd the other prope rty fo r th e children of Doublehea d and t hat they were [ meaning ] to ge t it all for their o wn use an d fixing t o steal i t and tha t if the white me n did act s o with th e propert y he Andrew w ould run awa y and come bac k to th e nation ag ain. The othe r negroes s eemed to be conc erne d that thes e white men woul d take th em to where Bird D o ublehead wa s and went cheerfull y an d the negroes assist e d the whit e men in collecting th e s tock and loading u p th e waggon a nd one of the negroes d r ove off the tea m and th e plantati on was left without an y hu man beein g on it but h er aunt s and Wah=hatihi It wa s the un derst anding with al l the In dians that the childr en were t o h ave all this prop erty a t last. Wah=hatih go t some India n s to [aprint hein ] and t hey gathered the cr ops and pu t it a way and no mor e whit e men came there t o [couriett ] for th e goods of ht e heir s of Old Doublehea d, and thi s affiant an d her two Au nts [ Sorrey & Ks-ti-e- ie-ah Dou blehead and Wah- hatih [mod e ure a it thermires ] ==Blac k and these other whit e men di d no t say that Dou blehea d owed them money, but onl y said t ha t the propert y shou ld be taken care of for the us e of h i s heirs and t his a ffiant and other [kinfolks] did no t co ns ent [uren ] to t hat for this affiant these thoughts a r e kno wn at t he ti me that this affiant and the other Cher oke es c oul d hav e taken as good [coreafit] as these friend ly wh i t e me n could do.
