NOTES
1). Captain Joel was born in Albemarle County Virginia in 1760, and went with his father, William Terrell Lewis Sr. and his brothers, William Terrell Lewis Jr., Micajah Green Lewis, and James Martin Lewis to Surry County, NC, where they enlisted in the army about the time of the American Revolutionary War. He led a company at King s Mountain in the American Revolution. In this troup were twenty two of his family connection. In 1784 he was chosen to represent Surry County, North Carolina in the House of Commons. He married Miriam Eastham in March 1786. They had eighteen children. In 1789 they moved to Nashville TN where he owned and operated a tavern. In 1796 he was a member of the convention that formed the first constitution of the State of Tennessee, andhe was elected State Senator. He died in Nashville, Davidson County Tennessee 1816. ! 2).  She was also a niece of Lord Fairfax.  Additional information about her dates obtained from Mrs. Ben Grizzard, of Winchester, TN by W. K. Fitzpatrick Sr. She and Joel moved to Mansfield TN in November, 1816. She married Col. Crabb in March, 1818, and theymoved to Franklin County TN. When he died in 1820, she moved to Winchester TN. Later lived with Dr. William W. Lean in Lauderdale Co. TN. In another place, my father  s notes indicate that she was the grand daughter of Thomas, Lord Fairfax VI.  !
