NOTES
1). He moved from Hanover County to Albemarle, and was the third settler in that County. That county had been formed from Goochland in 1744, which in turn had been carved from Henrico in 1728. He was among the first men who volunteered their service in Albemarle County to resist the high handed measures of Lord Dunmore s wicked administration . Before the war, he moved with his family to Surry County, NC in view of the celebrated Pilot Mountain . When the war began, he applied to Governor Caswell for commissions for all of his sons old enough to bear arms. A Company was organized in April 1775, and his sons served at the Battle of King s Mountain . In 1793 he migrated to Nashville where he died in about 1802.
