NOTES
1). bobspu.ged BIO Ike O DELL or Ikey , as his sister Lizzie used to call him, was the last of Frank O DELL s children to be born in Laurel Co., KY. The family left KENTUCKY and relocated in Montgomery Co., IN when Ike was about 2 years old. He moved with them againabout 1906 to northeast OKLAHOMA. T he family returned to INDIANA after 1912, but Ike later went back to OKLAHOMA where he married Ruby and settled in Nowata Co. Ike and Ruby were very active in the Church of God in Nowata. He worked for the City and was well known and highly respected in the community. Ike had an unhurried, laid back demeanor, and he talked in a slow drawl. This combined with his dry wit impressed his niece Wilma GILCHRIST greatly. One of Wilma s oft told stories was of a vacation she and a friend spent in Nowata with the O DELL s. Evidently a floor lamp had quit working, and Ruby had asked Ike several times to fix it. One evening, Ruby got impatient and asked, Ike, when are you going to fix that lamp? His response, per Wilma s report, was to not even use the energy to look at his wife, but, with head resting on the back of a chair, he drawled, Oh, when the spirit moves me, I guess...anybody got a plug? Ike was ill for quite some time with cancer. His daughter, Edra, was livingin the Dallas area and arranged for medical care there. Ike and Ruby made many trips to Dallas throughout his illness. He died in Dallas with his family around him. March, 1996 Hubert O DELL, brother of Ike, has allowed compiler the use of some Family Record Sheets taken from their mother s Bible. On a list of all of Frank s children, Ike s birth is recorded Isaac Mc. O DELL was Borned Oct. 15 1901, then in darker ink has been added, Laurel Co Ky. The 1920 census showsIke as 18 years of age, still living in the household of his parents. His occupation is given as general labor. REF 1. THE WILLIAM F. 2). bobspu.ged BIO The source of the birth date is not documented. Family tradition says that Ruby was of Cherokee Indian descent Ruby may have been born on Indian land, but this is not confirmed. Ruby and her brother, Joe, both had facial features of dark skin, black hair and high cheek bones. Both were average or taller height and slender. Compiler remembers Aunt Ruby having a rather staid manner, but not unkind or cold. She was always willing to listen to other s talk about their interests. Ruby is remembered withrespect and appreciation. Source Elizabeth Ann Gilchrist Jun 1998 O Dell.GED
