NOTES
1). bobspu.ged BIO Walter WILLIAMS was a man somewhat quick to anger, but gentle and loving, too. He tended to become agitated under pressure, and when frustration became too much, he could be heard muttering, Dad Gimmit!!! ...his favorite expression in such circumstances. Walter changed employment frequently. He was a kind of jack of all trades, and relocated many times with his large family, to follow employment opportunities where he could find them. Most of these moves were confined to northern INDIANA, but healso spent some time in southern INDIANA and for a period of time in the early 1940s, he moved his family to ILLINOIS. For the last 10 15 years of his life, Walter suffered from frequent illness because of a heart condition. Over these years, he slowly became weaker and more frail. Still, he attended the O DELL Family Reunion with great regularity...every year Walter was at the park in Plymouth on the second Sunday in August, eager to greet each of the members of the extended family who were able to travel to attend the affair. We all looked forward to the warm greeting we always received from Uncle Walter. The WILLIAMS were frequent visitors in the GILCHRIST home and compiler s family never made a trip up north that they did not spend some time with Walt and his family. To compiler growing up, they were simply an extension of her immediate family. REF 1. The Family Tree of W.F. O DELL and V.M. PHELPS O DELL, unpub. geneal. by O.L. and Beverly WARREN Tulsa, OK. 2. 2). bobspu.ged BIO Callie O. WILLIAMS was the youngest female child of Wm. and V. M. O DELL. Her male twin died shortly after birth and was buried in Craig County, OK. Callie and her husband Walter were humble people, who struggled to keep their large family clothed and fed. They changed residences many times during their 52 years of marriage, relocating where Walter could find work, seldom remaining in the same location more than two or three years. Walter and Callie were family people, both devoted to their own children, but also very attached to their brothers and sisters. More than once the couple moved long distances to be nearer to Callie s sisters Hettie and Lizzie. They made frequent trips to visit other O DELL siblings and to remote areas of KENTUCKY to visitthe members of Walter s family who remained there. For many years, Callie s older brother Red and his two sons spent as much time with Callie and Walter or with Hettie and her family, as they did in their own home. Breakfast at the WILLIAMS or the WARRENS homes when Red and the boys were there was like a holiday feast! The aroma of hot biscuits, ham and gravy was always accompanied by lots of happy noise and a huge table surrounded by 12 or 15 people! Compiler has many fond memories of Callie s keen wit and sense of humor. Summer vacations usually included a week or more spent in the WILLIAMS household with many of those big breakfasts and Aunt Callie s hot yeast rolls and delicious pies! Shortly after Walter s death, Callie moved into an apartment complex for senior citizens in Plymouth, IN. Callie had worked for several years at Parkview Hospital there, and had been active in the community and in her church. After moving into her small apartment, she soon became the organizer of shared evening meals with some of her neighbors who lived alone as she did. At 85 years of age, Callie still stays in close contact with not only her children and grandchildren, but also with her nieces and nephews and her brother Knute and his family. She is still a caring, loving and vital member of the extended family. March, 1996 Callie s brother, Hubert, has loaned compiler some Family Record Sheets from their mother s Bible As the eleventh of thirteen children and a twin to HallieOakel, a baby who did not survive, Callie s birth is recorded Callie Opal O dell was Borned Hallie Oakel O dell April 20 1909 What appears to be a later entry is Big Cabin Okla Craig Co.
